How Color Psychology can Benefit Your Living Space

There is more to decorating than paint, candles, and blankets. You must consider the vibe you are trying to create before you start. As with anything in life there is Psychology associated with color. Psychology of Color?   

Yes, many people know the psychology of color, but it's taken me years to study interior design psychology and grasp why several colors work together yet others do not. 

This blog will share tips for establishing a positive atmosphere through color. 

Colors create different vibes in your space, the same way music does.

The Psychology of Color is very important! Different color wavelengths trigger different emotions, which can make the whole room feel different.

For example, red’s wavelength (which is longest) stimulates activity in the brain; this stimulates excitement and energy.

On the other hand, yellow has a shorter wavelength which slows down your mental processes because it isn’t as stimulating to the brain. This explains why you should never use red paint in your bedroom (unless you want to stay up all night).

Without a solid understanding of the Psychology of color, your decorating projects will never be complete. You can have that great color scheme going on with your paint and curtains, but without the psychological element it will never pair correctly with the rest of your home.

I understand that this information is not necessarily common knowledge. Many of you may think of your house as having a particular scheme of colors, but I assure you that each room within your home is filled with several different colors. The same holds true for the items found in those rooms as well.

When you are picking your colors, think about the Energy of your room. Consider your Energy Comfort Psychological theory. What colors give your brain the most comfort? What colors evoke feelings of sadness, pain, or grossness?

It is important to know that certain colors can be warm or cool. Using warm colors, such as colors like reds, oranges, yellows, and browns will make your room feel warmer. Cool colors are more blueish in tone. These would be great for bedrooms or living rooms in my opinion because they are calming and quieting.

What colors are in your space? Maybe it's time to rearrange your home so that your environment reflects who you are and what you want to achieve. 

My studies have helped me to realize that there is a much deeper meaning to how people choose the colors in their home and how those colors make them feel. I learned that you could take light and make it serve as your tools as decorator. To begin, take a few minutes to do some research on how to work with lighting, and take note of the differences between warm and cool colors. 

Like I mentioned, there are many different things that can be used to create your desired atmosphere.
